Mammoth-sized plastic bags

How does my mother know everything? I mean everything. I know a lot of people claim their mother is always right, but that's not true, because mine is.

Two years ago when I got my bed it came in very large plastic bags which serve no purpose except to be in the way, but my mom told me to keep them because I would want them one day.

I am moving into a new apartment in two days and so I'm in the process of packing and cleaning. I stumbled upon those bags. And I am going to use them.

I'm learning that my mild case of pack-ratism has a strong genetic basis, and I give my mom a hard time about her keeping everything in "special places," but by golly it comes in handy.

Graduation

I graduated from college last weekend. Thank you, thank you. I survived, maybe even thrived. At one point during graduation weekend it got really warm outside and I had to dig out some summer clothes. No problem.

Then I had to fit into said clothes. Slightly larger problem.

My mom complimented me on the outfit I chose (i.e. the one I could get on) which was very nice of her and I graciously accepted her kind words. I did mention that it was a LITTLE tight*. Oh, it must be from the dryer, she thought. Nope. As much as I've grown intellectually, emotionally, socially (I can say that, right?) over the past 4 years, I think I've also grown equally squishy. I no longer need the extra padding for gravity-induced mishaps for which I've been prone Thursdays through Saturdays, because I'm now a calm, sophisticated grad student. Bottom line: the senior 15 gotsta go.

R.I.P.

The scene I stumbled upon walking home from the library tonight made my day, week, and it could possibly carry over into making my month.

Marquette is buying out or getting rid of (I don't know which) beloved Angelo's/Blo's on our campus. This is heart-wrenching news for all of us who have been here long enough to get to know the establishment. In addition to its amazing pizza, a monkey could get in with a fake ID (I do not know if this has been scientifically confirmed) and thus it is a favorite of the youngins.

Anyways, I was walking home from the library and as I was approaching the corner where Blo's is located, the smell of beer hung in the air like smog- -moreso than usual. I got closer and as I walked by I realized what was going on. There was a group of 20-30 students standing outside having a candlelight vigil.

Hilarious. I love this place.

21 going on 7

Sometimes I'm not too sure about myself...

I've had a rough couple of days and not for any particular reason. It's just been "one of those weeks," I suppose. Here's what I did on Monday:

I experienced what I thought was a normal day of class, though I was dragging much more than usual. Already having a caffeine crash at 9 AM usually isn't a good sign. By 5 PM, minutes after I confessed to some of my classmates I had 'Row, row, row your boat' stuck in my head for the entire three-hour lab period we'd just finished, I also realized I no longer had my coat.

Where the heck did I leave my coat!? Ugh. I left it in one of my classes, but as to which one- now THAT would be a valuable nugget of information to have, wouldn't it?

Then I looked down at my socks. They were completely mismatched. I'm talking not even close. One was entirely white and the other was gray, white, and blue.

The only thing I could do is start cracking up at myself. I turned to my friend.

"Honestly, who over the age of six loses a coat and has no idea where it is? And look at my socks!"

He cracked up. "And who over the age of 6 has 'Happy Birthday' and 'Row, row, row your boat' stuck in her head for hours on end?" he reminded me.

We both laughed at my pathetic state.

"You're lucky you're a lot smarter than I am," he added, "because I otherwise I'd be giving you so much grief right now."

"You sure about me being smarter than you?"

The end. Right now I have to go find my coat.

Karma

The one thing I don't like about my phone is when I have it flipped open to text with the full keyboard and a call comes in, the phone automatically answers the call.

I hardly ever text during class. Really, I'm serious. Yet approximately 84% of the time when I do, a call will come in and then I either have to hang up on the person, or when it was my dad one time I had to whisper shout, "I'm in class the teacher's coming bye!"

Today one of my classes was just about to start and I had something really important to tell one of my friends. I flipped open my phone to send the text while everyone quieted down and the teacher started talking. Then my phone decided to answer a call and it was a number I didn't know so all I could do was hang up.

I was hoping the person would be confused why the call was dropped and try to call back to leave a message, but that didn't happen.

I googled the number when I got home and it was the apartment complex I'd been waiting to hear from all week.

Shoot.

Diapers

I as a twenty-something am currently feeling discriminated against. There are diapers for infants, older adults, and even some "big kids." Well, I want to know why there aren't diapers marketed for me. Yes, I think it would be incredibly uncomfortable to squeeze extra bulk into my pants, but on the other hand it would be nice to have some backup and there would also be extra cushion for the tush.

I do have a lot of caffeine in me right now, but I'm not completely crazy. I'll break it down for you.

I was sitting in molecular pathology this morning drinking about 20 oz. of the caffeine beverage I just mentioned when not even 15 minutes into the 75 minute class I needed to void. This urge to empty my bladder increased exponentially over the next hour making the final 20 minutes of class physically painful.

My singular focus was not peeing my pants since there's a stigma making that socially unacceptable, and I couldn't absorb any of the information being presented.

Children take in an unbelievable amount of information in their beginning years of life and I theorize a strong contributor to that ability is the fact they don't have to worry about taking care of business.

If only it was cool and not disgusting to wear diapers as a fully physically functioning young adult, there would be better focus in high schools and universities, and we would no longer be so far behind other nations intellectually.

Think about it (but not too hard because I'm not really serious). On 3 cups of coffee I can tell you it will seem pretty brilliant.

Spaz

A lot of the trouble I cause myself could be avoided most of the time if I didn't have such weird ticks. I spent last night debating with my friends why I love Twix but don't like Kit-Kats. I was about to get heated too. There is a huge difference between those sad little wafers (and no, I won't be won over with the "crispy" description) and the amazing cookie crunch of Twix. George Constanza gets me, yet I never ever want to have to compare myself to him again, fictional though he is.

This morning, oh, 3 minutes ago, I was sitting here at my desk trying to drink coffee, eat a banana, and not freak out since I just realized I never bought the books for this class I have today. Another weird quirk I have is with bananas. I will eat them way before they're ripe because I absolutely can't handle the brown spots. Well, I found a brown spot.

'No big deal,' I told myself. 'Just eat around it.'

As I tried to eat around the diseased area (about .5cm by 1 cm) I dropped the banana on my pants and out of fright- - because you know how terribly bananas stain!!-- I jerked back and rolled over my toes with my desk chair.

And now I'm going to be late (and unprepared, like I found out) to class.
